Special Courts and New Funding to deal with Terror

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting over the implementation of the anti-terrorism action plan.

During the meeting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said those involved in the killing of security personnel and innocent people would be sentenced by special courts. The prime minister added that special courts were part of the anti-terrorism national action plan and measures were required to tackle extraordinary problems.

Prime Minister Sharif further said all institutions would have to conduct a thorough examination before terrorism cases were sent to military tribunals. “The anti-terrorism national action plan expressed the nation’s solidarity and was a unanimous decision.”

The meeting held at the PM House was attended by Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif and DG ISI, Lt Gen Rizwan Akthar. Federal Ministers, political and legal advisers were also present at the meeting.

Pakistan on Tuesday reviewed its strategy to block terror financing and disrupt militant communication networks as part of the implementation of a national counter-terrorism action plan, officials said.

"We have isolated terrorists with our unity and will make sure that we remain united against those who killed the innocent children," Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was quoted as saying in a statement issued by his office after he chaired the high-level meeting.

"Our fight is with the forces of hatred, violence and intolerance... We cannot betray our martyrs by giving a picture of disunity and shall win this fight as a nation," Sharif said.

Sharif told the meeting only those cases which relate to terrorists responsible for mass murder of innocent civilians, children and soldiers of law enforcement agencies will be referred to the special courts.

"Special courts are part of the national action plan and an extraordinary solution to an extraordinary problem," Sharif said.
